Alamo Colleges include the many different colleges who serve the Bexar County through their different services as well as programs in order to aid their students in order for them to succeed in acquiring all the different knowledge as well as skills which are needed in the world today. In the Alamo Colleges, the students are being taught by faculty members who are highly qualified; the faculty members are holders of either Master’s or doctorate degrees. There are many different student services which are being offered in these universities; services include the following: computer labs, counseling, financial services, tutoring, developmental instruction, services for the disabled, job placement, as well as veteran’s services. There are actually five different colleges which cover the Alamo Colleges; these colleges are the following: San Antonio College, St. Philip’s College, Palo Alto College, Northeast Lakeview College, and Northwest Vista College. All of these colleges are already accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Furthermore, the Alamo Colleges are composed of nine board of trustees who were elected locally by the voters in the Bexar County; they serve for six- year terms. There is the Chancellor who is recognized to be the district’s chief executive officer; s/he guides as well as implements all of the different programs and policies imposed by the Alamo Colleges.

The San Antonio College offers ten different programs which include their Nursing Program. The San Antonio College Nursing Program has been recognized in February 2008 as an Exemplary Program. Furthermore, this college’s program offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing. On the other hand, if the students pass the examination of the NCLEX-RN, they are licensed as Registered Nurses in the State of Texas. This program has been recognized to be accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission as well as by the Texas Board of Nursing. All courses are being taught in two sections, day and night. The San Antonio College PALS is almost the same as those of the other Alamo Colleges. For this school’s tuition fees, they charge $183 per semester credit hour as an additional to students who attempt to undergo or take the same course more than two times. On the other hand, they offer free tuition for senior citizens ages 65 years or older. Furthermore, tuition assistance from third parties is also accepted as long as the student presents all the needed documents in order to process the payment. There are also special program tuition fees which are applied; for the Nursing Special Program= $700.00, for the Dental Special Program= $530.00, for the Aviation Special Program Tuition= $2,230.00 up to $9,549.00, for the Water Treatment Special Program Tuition= $2,500.00- $3,000.00, and for the FireScience Special Program Tuition= $530.00. They also offer different scholarships through the following: San Antonio College President’s Holiday Card Design Scholarship Competition, Forty & Eight and General Nursing Scholarships, Women’s Center Child Care Scholarship, and Ladies Auxilary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Department of Texas.

Furthermore, the San Antonio College also offers continuing education through its Training Network. Courses offered include the following: Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for Nursing Students, understanding Pharmacology Mathematics, Monitor Tech Programs including the Introduction to Cardiac Rhythms, Intermediate Arrhythmia Recognition, and Advance Arrhythmia Recognition, Certified Nursing Assistant Program which requires six courses including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), OSHA Tech, Malpractice Low Risk, Nurse Aide, Nurse Aide for Healthcare, and Clinical for Nurse Aide, RN Refresher, Intravenous Therapy, Medical Terminology, Reiki I, II, and III as well as Spanish for Health Care.

The San Antonio College also offers online schooling through their Online Instruction Center. Course offered are Basic Computer Literacy, Graphic Design, Web Page Design, Web and Computer Programming, PC Troubleshooting, Networking, and Security, Digital Photography and Digital Video, Writing and Publishing, Test Prep, and many more.
